Summer is over, schools have started again — and diabetes technology definitely didn’t take a summer break.

Over the past two months, we’ve seen new pumps and sensors launch, software updates roll out, new CGM integrations appear, and several companies reveal what is coming next.

So, if you took some time off this summer: here’s your catch-up.

We’ll go through 10 AID systems and 10 CGMs, with the most important updates — and a look at what’s coming next.

AID systems

1. MiniMed

There is a lot happening in the MiniMed ecosystem.

The MiniMed 780G is now being rolled out with both Simplera Sync and Instinct CGM in the US and Europe.

The newer MiniMed Flex — a smaller tubed pump controlled through the MiniMed app on Android and iOS — is now available in the US with Simplera Sync and Instinct. A European launch is planned by the end of 2026, probably first with Simplera Sync and later with Instinct.

For both pumps, launch timing and CGM compatibility vary by country.

And the pipeline doesn’t stop there:

• Vivera, Medtronic’s full closed-loop algorithm, is planned for 2027.
• MiniMed Fit, a patch pump, is planned for 2027 in the US.
• MiniMed Go, the smart MDI system built around the MiniMed Go app, is now available in the US and Europe.
• MiniMed is developing a next-generation extended-wear CGM with enhanced sensor chemistry. 

In other words: MiniMed is becoming much more than one pump with one algorithm.

2. Omnipod 5

Omnipod 5 received an important software update in the US, introducing a lower glucose target of 100 mg/dL, integration with FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, and easier alarm handling.

A European software update is planned for September 2026, including FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus integration and improved alarm handling.

What comes after Omnipod 5 is becoming clearer too.

• Omnipod 6 is planned for 2027, with improved Bluetooth connectivity and an updated algorithm with an “adaptive automated rate” capable of delivering up to 50% more automated insulin when needed.
• For 2028, Insulet is targeting a ready-out-of-the-box full closed-loop system for people with type 2 diabetes.

Meanwhile, the new Omnipod Discover data platform is being rolled out.

3. Tandem

The Tandem t-slim:X2 with Control-IQ+ technology is now available in both the US and Europe.

• In the US, it integrates with Dexcom G7 and FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus.
• European availability with FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus is expanding as well, including the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland and Italy, with other countries expected to follow.
• Europe has also finally received the t:slim mobile app with phone bolus, alongside the rollout of the Tandem Source data platform.

Then there is Tandem Mobi.

• The Android app has now launched in the US. 
• In Europe, Mobi is coming “soon”, with limited Early Access programs already underway. At launch, however, European users will initially have iOS only; Android support will follow later.

Also in the pipeline:

• Mobi Tubeless is planned for the US by the end of 2026.
• The AutoSoft Plus infusion set has launched in Canada, designed for quick set changes and one-handed insertion.
• The 7-day SteadySet remains on track for 2027.
• AIDANET, Tandem’s full closed-loop system, is moving into clinical development, with FDA IDE approval and a pivotal study ongoing.

4. myLoop

The myLoop system now also works with Dexcom G7, alongside FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus.

But perhaps the more interesting development is CamAPS Liberty.

This full closed-loop feature is now being rolled out and is designed to let users temporarily stop announcing carbohydrates — for example, while on holiday or during a particularly busy day or week at work.

Also in development:

• smartwatch integration 
• and a patch pump called myPatch.

5. Diabeloop

The DBLG2 app is now available with the Kaleido pump and Dexcom G7 in Germany and the Netherlands.

France is next, with other countries expected to follow later.

Diabeloop is also working on expanding the indication: use in children, people with type 2 diabetes and pregnancy is expected by the end of 2026.

A DBLG2 Demo App is now available on the Google Play Store in Germany and the Netherlands. It provides a simulation of the DBLG2 interface, including device pairing and the main app features, for patients and healthcare professionals who want to see how the system works. (The demo app is not a medical device and should not be used for treatment decisions.)

6. Beta Bionics

Beta Bionics has made a near-real-time real-world data dashboard publicly available on its website, giving an interesting look at how the iLet performs outside clinical trials.

The company is also working on two major expansions in the US market:

• an indication for type 2 diabetes, expected in 2027;
• the Mint patch pump, also expected in 2027.

7. twiist

Not much news here this summer.

The twiist system remains available with FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Eversense 365.

8. TouchCare Nano

The TouchCare Nano system is available with both 200-unit and 300-unit patch pumps, and the 300-unit version is now also reimbursed in Germany.

Next up is the S10 CGM, which Medtrum describes as the world’s smallest CGM at just 16 mm in diameter.

A European launch is planned for the end of 2026.

9. Equil S

The Equil S closed-loop system remains in development — but its second-generation patch pump hardware received NMPA marketing approval for adult use in China in July 2026. 

A pivotal trial of the Equil S hybrid closed-loop system (patch pump + AiDEX G7 CGM) in 123 people with type 1 diabetes (adolescents and adults) showed significant improvements after 12 weeks in automated mode: 

• time in range increased from 63.7% to 68.3% in adolescents 
• and from 69.6% to 78.0% in adults, 
• HbA1c decreased in both groups, 
• and time below range was reduced — with no severe hypoglycaemia or DKA events.

One to keep an eye on.

10. Open-source AID

And of course, development continues outside the commercial AID world too.

• AndroidAPS: no major updates.
• DIY Loop: Omnipod 5 and Dana pump support is available in dev-branches.
• Trio: dev-branches are available for FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus, Eversense, SmartGuide, CareSens Air, Syai Ultra, Tandem Mobi and Omnipod 5.
• iAPS: new support for Omnipod 5 and Eversense.

CGM

1. Abbott – FreeStyle Libre

One of the biggest developments is Libre Duo, Abbott’s combined glucose and ketone sensor.

• Both Libre Duo and Libre Duo 10 Day have received European regulatory approval,
• while the US approval covers the 10-day version. Launch in the US is planned for fall 2026.

Abbott is also moving further beyond traditional CGM with Lingo.

Lingo already syncs with Apple Health and will also connect with Google Health, bringing glucose data together with a broader picture of health. Google Health can then use these data to provide AI-enabled personalized health guidance.

Even as Abbott pushes CGM toward AI-driven interpretation, it hasn't abandoned simplicity at the other end of the spectrum: the original Libre 2 and Libre 3 sensors are being phased out step by step in favor of their Plus counterparts. This rollout isn't synchronized globally, though — timing varies by country.

In certain markets — currently France, Germany, and the Netherlands — Abbott has also introduced the Libre Select.

• Physically, the sensor itself is essentially identical to the Libre 2 hardware, sharing the same size, weight, and two-piece applicator,
• but it connects exclusively to the Libre 3 app and reader, giving it the continuous, scan-free data transmission of the newer platform.
• This sensor is positioned more simply, aimed at people with type 2 diabetes on basal insulin therapy who aren't connected to a pump.

2. Dexcom

Dexcom has been particularly busy.

The Stelo app has been redesigned in the US, with an international rollout to the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea planned for late 2026.

• New features include smarter meal logging, AI-powered nutrition breakdowns and photo-based food logging: take a picture of your meal and AI helps identify and describe it.
• The app also provides smarter daily insights, links glucose responses with meals, activity and sleep, recognizes patterns, offers proactive AI coaching and generates personalized daily and weekly summaries.

Meanwhile:

• Smart Basal is being tested in the Dexcom G7 app in the US; European approval is pending.
• Dexcom G6 is being phased out, with timing and availability varying by country. 
• Dexcom G7 15 Day is being rolled out in the US; the timing of a European launch remains unclear.
• Dexcom Flex, a 15-day sensor focused on type 2 diabetes, has launched in Germany.
• Dexcom G8 — expected to be around half the size and eventually support multi-analyte sensing — is currently slated for late 2027/early 2028.

3. Senseonics – Eversense 365

Eversense 365 is available in the US and has now also launched in Sweden, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Meanwhile, the next-generation Gemini and Freedom systems remain in development.

4. i-SENS – CareSens Air

i-SENS is preparing to launch CareSens Air 2, its next-generation CGM, in early 2027.

The new CGM features a smaller and lighter sensor than the original CareSens Air and offers

• an 18-day wear period,
• a 20-minute warm-up time,
• and a redesigned user app. 

5. Roche – Accu-Chek SmartGuide

The Accu-Chek SmartGuide CGM can now be used through the mySugr app, including an integrated bolus calculator.

SmartGuide data can also connect with Glooko.

6. Sibionics

Image presented by Benson Deng, SiBionics, during his presentation of the company’s technology roadmap at the DDG Congress 2026 in Berlin. 

The SiBionics GS3 CGM and KS3 continuous ketone monitor are now broadly available.

The updated Sibionics GS3 app will bring 4 AI enabled features:

• spike detection,
• voice & image logging,
• meal insights
• and an incentive system to reinforce logging behaviour.

A combined glucose and ketone sensor is also in development.

7. MicroTech Medical - LinX S1

MicroTech Medical developed a new CGM called AiDEX G9 (international brand: LinX S1), featuring a detachable design with a reusable transmitter for greater cost-effectiveness compared to the fully disposable LinX (AiDEX X).

• LinX S1 received CE marking in the EU in April 2026.
• Its companion app is already live on the App Store. 

8. Sinocare – iCan

The iCan CGM family continues to expand geographically:

• iCan i3 is available in India and parts of Latin America.
• iCan i6 is available in China and is CE-MDR certified for use from 2 years of age.
• GlucoMen iCan is available in the UK.

The more interesting development may again be on the software side.

iCan Coach has advanced to what Sinocare calls “Level 5 intelligent guidance”, combining three main capabilities: AI food recognition, glucose trend prediction and personalized management recommendations.

The idea is to shift from simply reacting to glucose excursions toward predicting them and giving personalized guidance beforehand.

Sinocare is also working beyond humans: the company offers a PET-CGM for continuous glucose monitoring in animals.

9. Syai

The Syai CGM is available, with no major updates this summer.

10. Yuwell

The Anytime CT3 is available in the UK.

More recently, the Anytime 4 and 5 series have also received CE marking.

So, what stands out?

Looking across all 20 systems, a few trends are becoming difficult to miss.

• More interoperability. FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus and Dexcom G7 are increasingly connecting with multiple AID systems rather than one proprietary ecosystem.
• More full closed-loop. CamAPS Liberty is already moving in this direction, while MiniMed Vivera, Tandem AIDANET and future Omnipod systems show where the industry is heading: less carbohydrate counting and less daily diabetes work.
• More patch pumps. Mobi Tubeless, MiniMed Fit, Mint and myPatch are all in development.
• And perhaps most strikingly: AI is moving into CGM apps. Dexcom, Abbott/Google and Sinocare are all moving from simply showing glucose data toward interpreting meals, predicting patterns and giving personalized recommendations.

Whether all of that will genuinely reduce diabetes burden — rather than just generate more notifications and advice — will be the interesting part.

Coming up: EASD 2026

And there won’t be much time to catch our breath.

EASD 2026 takes place in Milan from 28 September to 2 October, and the program is already public.

A few things on my reading list:

• GRACE-780G,
• a RADIANT extension,
• an EVOLUTION 3 sub-analysis in people with type 2 diabetes on GLP1a,
• and the draft EASD guideline on CGM use in type 2 diabetes, which was released for consultation in July.

So expect another diabetes technology update after Milan.
